On March 26, 2012, OSHA announced its long anticipated final rule to update the current Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) in the United States to the internationally standardized United Nations' Globally Harmonized System (GHS). The new rule - referred to as HazCom 2012 - will greatly improve the classification of hazardous chemicals and the communication of hazards to workers via labels and safety data sheets.
