Effective April 22, 2010, anyone who performs renovations, repairs, or painting in pre-1978 housing or child-occupied facilities must be EPA Lead Safe Certified. Individuals and firms that are not certified could face fines of up to $37,500 per day.

This new EPA law applies if your project disturbs:
  • More than 6 square feet of interior painted surface AND/OR
  • More than 20 square feet of exterior painted surface

The Lead Renovator Certification Initial course is 8 hours in length and includes both EPA-approved lead safety training and certification. Any contractor performing qualifying work must employ at least one Certified Renovator who has successfully completed this training, in addition to being registered as a Lead Safe Certified Firm with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The course concludes with a 25 question EPA-certification exam.

There are 5 steps to be sure you are in compliance:

  1. Get registered for an EPA-approved lead certification course
  2. Submit an application to EPA on behalf of your company
  3. Complete the training in a public or private workshop
  4. Pass the 25-question certification exam given in class
  5. Receive approval from EPA and you are in the clear!

This course is provided by an approved EPA Trainer and this will satisfy the new requirement for individuals to attain EPA lead certification in Lead Paint Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP). Attendees who pass the certification exam will be certified as renovators to perform lead-safe work.

By James P. - Attended class on February 27, 2013

My instructor June made present the information in a clear and concise manner, that was easy to process. She made sure everyone in the class grasped the material, and answered all questions completely! If I were to take another class from Greenedu, I would try to find if she taught that course first. I have gotten several other certifications prior to this rrp, and no instructor compared to her. Greenedu should feel fortunate to have such a quality instructor on their staff!

By Daniel F. - Attended class on February 13, 2013

June made the class interesting and kept us engaged. She knew the material like the back of her hand. I thoroughly enjoyed the class.

By Howard K. - Attended class on January 25, 2013

I thought it was very well planned out. I think the instructor was very knowledgable and very well rounded in the field.

By Benjamin S. - Attended class on January 17, 2013

I thought the overall rating was about four stars. The trainer was articulate and the material was presented in a clear manner. The only improvement would be if there was more time allowed to do the practical part of the test. The most important part in my opion.

By Stephen G. - Attended class on January 15, 2013

very informative session

By Eric H. - Attended class on January 15, 2013

By Randall N. - Attended class on January 15, 2013

The class was very helpful. Thanks for the efficient and practical information.

By Keith B. - Attended class on January 15, 2013

I thought the course and the instructor, June Allman, were as the five star rating says, absolutely awesome. It is a long day and a lot of instruction but June made it very enjoyable and I truly learned a lot. I have been the building trades for more than 35 years and learned a lot. That should say something about the course.

   By Dennis P. M. - Attended class on January 9, 2013

I found this course to be very informative. I was not fully aware of the dangers of lead and how exposure to it could effect the health of my customers, my family, and myself. In the future I will practice the safety procedures I have learned at the class. Also June Allman our trainer conveyed the information in a professional and entertaining manner.

By Jeff D. - Attended class on December 21, 2012

One of the most clearly presented and engaging classes I have ever attended. An absolutely outstanding job!!!

By Michael P. - Attended class on December 21, 2012

The trainer was very impressive. And i recommend the course for everyone. I am now looking at employment with the E.P.A. They must need people to enforce this ruling for contractors to be certified. I am letting all the people i know in my field that this is needed.
Thanks,
Mike P

June is a great teacher. She understood the need to present the most important facts, briefly touched on the mundane ones and is an asset to your program. That's about it in a nutshell.

By Eric M. - Attended class on December 21, 2012

Very good

By Anthony G. - Attended class on December 21, 2012

By Doug M. - Attended class on December 20, 2012

A lot to absorb in an 8 hour session.

   By Leonard J K. - Attended class on December 20, 2012

I really am glad I took the class. Not only will the training and certificate help me get jobs, but the teaching about the effects and danger of lead dust really opened my eyes. I've been doing this work for 38 years and never took precautions. I would never want to be checked with a BLL. I would be afraid. My instructor June was great. She kept me interested for 8 hrs. That's not easy. Kudos to her and Greenedu. Thanks, lenny k

By Judith Lyn C. - Attended class on December 7, 2012

June was articulate, thorough, humourous at times and patient with questions. Hands on instruction was spot on. Class is long but necessary and informative. June made the day go smoothly. I was able to take great notes and pass the test at the end with no problem.
